Even though the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Wireless bears the Nexus name, it does not receive updates directly from Google as other Nexus products do.  As a result, it is often late in receiving updates, but still ahead of other non-Nexus devices.  The Galaxy Nexus on VZW has been stuck on Android 4.1.2 for a couple of months now, but Verizon is now pushing out the latest Android 4.2.2 build for users.

According to the announcement, the update is rolling out today, but will do so in phases.  In other words, it may take a week or longer to receive your update.  The update brings notable features such as improved camera functionality, gesture keyboard, lock screen widgets, and photosphere capabilities.

Again, if you own a stock Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Wireless, then you should keep an eye out for the update that should become available shortly.
