Fans of larger smartphones on Verizon were only recently able to purchase the Galaxy S III with its 4.8 inch screen, but are unable to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Note with its mighty 5.3 inch screen.

According to a recent report by Digitimes, Verizon customers may soon be able to buy a 5 inch smartphone courtesy of HTC by September or October.  Unnamed industry sources indicate HTC will soon launch a smartphone with a 5 inch display with resolution of 1794 x 1080.  A full HD screen on a smartphone would make viewing videos and other media a great experience.  Other related rumors suggests the HTC phablet will feature stylus support (something we’ve previously seen in the HTC Flyer) and a quad-core processor.

If HTC actually plans on launching such a device for Verizon, it is going to have to compete with a strong Samsung Galaxy Note II.  It will be interesting to see if Verizon manages to secure the Galaxy Note II or passes it in favor of the HTC 5 inch device.
