Earlier today, Sprint held its quarterly earnings call in which CEO Dan Hesse alluded to the Motorola Photon Q – a high end Android 4.0 device that features a slider QWERTY keyboard.  Now, has Sprint decided to issue the press release and make the Photon Q official.

Unfortunately, we do not yet know the exact launch date or price at this time. However, we can provide a few details on the phone. The Motorola Photon Q on Sprint sports a 4.3 inch touch screen display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.0, 4G LTE connectivity, 8MP rear facing camera that captures 1080p video, front facing HD camera for web conferencing, HDMI-out, and NFC connectivity.

In addition, the Photon Q is preloaded with Motorola SMARTACTIONS, which is an app that automates certain functions on your device.  For example, it can adjust the brightness and turn off the WiFi when the battery becomes low. Andrew covered SmartActions on the Droid RAZR and found it to be pretty useful.

Sprint mentions that pricing and availability information will be announced “within the next few weeks.”  I imagine we will see it drop before the end of August.  Customers interested in a high-end Android smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard should definitely consider the Photon Q.
