Music event discovery app Songkick Concerts has made its way to Android and is available now in Google Play. The app, which creates personal calendars and concert listings based on your musical tastes, requires a device running Android 2.2 or higher.

Songkick is an app that scans your stored music library on the phone and then gains a sense of what type of artists and genres you like. It can also link with Facebook, Pandora, or to gain a better understanding of your favorite artists, then searches for concerts in your area that may be of interest. You can also see when your favorite bands and singers are touring if you’re willing to travel.

Based on my stored music, Songkick thinks I might be interested to know that Gotye, Jonti, and Givers are performing in Miami this October. I can then see a map of where the venue is, bookmark it incase I want to go, and see the full line-up. After discovering Givers for the first time in Vegas this January, I definitely want to see them when they come to town. Because Songkick has links to Live Nation, StubHub, and Ticketsnow, I can purchase tickets from within the app.

Songkick organizes the calendar to show which upcoming events you plan to attend as well as which artists you like will be performing in your area. It even provides optional alerts when someone you love is touring soon and can export to a Google Calendar. The app also lets users see a complete listing of local events, which is good since Songkick failed to realize that I’m a Childish Gambino fan and would like to attend his concert tomorrow night.

Music fans and frequent concertgoers should try Songkick in Google Play. The app follows a simple design that cuts right to the point of discovering worthwhile events and is very customizable. Other features include:

  • Keep track of multiple cities to increase your area to get notifications. Adding Ft. Lauderdale, a town only 15 minutes away from me, more than doubled my options.
  • Invite friends to concert listings to see who might be interested in attending. You can use the default Android Share function to send to several apps.
  • Browse the Artist tab to see which of your favorites are on tour and see a complete listing of their show dates. You can also customize the tab to stop tracking people you don’t want to see or manually add other artists.
