Samsung introduces TecTiles, enables NFC use in a productive way

The Samsung Galaxy S III devices sold in America will be able to take advantage of a special product invented by Samsung that involves NFC technology. The product is known as TecTiles and it is a little sticker that can be programmed to perform a variety of functions. The technology was able to be developed through NFC and a software component that can be downloaded through the Play Store.

Some of the functions highlighted by Samsung include sending a pre-written text message, setting alarms, dimming the display, and putting the phone in a silent profile. On a business scale, business owners can place a sticker on a wall that checks the user into Foursquare or Facebook automatically. There are a few other integrations with Facebook and Twitter including sending tweets, posting a status, or liking a post.

Now, the way the Samsung TecTile works is relatively simple. A user has to tap a Galaxy smartphone with NFC to the sticker and it automatically changes to the pre-programmed setting. Each TecTile can be programmed an unlimited amount of times through the Samsung TecTile app found in the Play Store.

The smartphones that will be able to take advantage of the Samsung TecTile technology are the Galaxy S III on all five American carriers, Galaxy S II on T-Mobile, Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and Sprint, the unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S 4G on Sprint, and the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G on T-Mobile. The TecTiles will be sold through each carrier for $14.99 in a pack of five.

I dont think Samsung “invented” this, people have been using NFC tags for a while now.

I am a little confused as well NFC stickers have been around for a while. So basically there will be a small amount of NFC stickers out there only Samsung phones can use? Hmm well guess my EVO LTE just isnt in the cool club now lol.
