Even though some of you might be under the impression that the Galaxy Nexus was the first ever smartphone to be announced with Android 4.0 under the hood, a whole different gadget was actually supposed to be the pioneer.
I am talking about the Sharp Aquos 104SH Phone, a Japanese device unveiled last fall, but which is yet to hit the market. The 4.5-incher will finally be made available starting tomorrow, February 24, and, while it’s far from being as impressive as all those months back, it is still set to be a more than decent high-end gadget.
Powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor and featuring 1 GB of RAM, as well as 16 GB of on-board memory, the handset will no doubt be overshadowed by all the quad-core smartphones set to hit the market in the coming months, but for the time being, it should be more than enough to satisfy the thirst for technology and portability of all you Asian geeks.
That’s right, only Asian for now, because the guys at Sharp are yet to announce a global release, which might mean that we are yet again faced with a Japan-exclusive powerful smartphone.
As I already mentioned, the Aquos 104SH will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and will feature a pretty great 12.1 MP rear-facing camera. The body will be waterproof and dustproof, two features that are already standard for Japanese smartphones, while the 4.5-inch screen sported will come with a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution.
As you might expect from an Asian Android-based gadget, the Aquos 104SH is aiming to impress with its design, being available in two different elegant color schemes (Deep Ocean and Rising Sun) and measuring a mere 8.9 mm (0.35 inches) in depth.
Other features include WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and a microSD card slot for expanding the memory to up to 32 GB. As far as pricing goes, even though we are only 24 hours before the smartphone’s official release, we have no details. Stay tuned on Androinica.com to find out what you will have to pay in order to adopt one of the first Android 4.0 gadgets in Asia, but also for other information about the Sharp Aquos 104SH!
