Samsung has started Mobile World Congress 2012 with a device very similar to one introduced at Mobile World Congress 2011. Today, the company announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1), a follow-up to last year’s tablet that is fairly similar.
The Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) is “well-suited for home and family use,” says Samsung. It also continues the Korean manufacturer’s trend of introducing similar tablets of various sizes. But while rivals like ASUS have already introduced quad-core tablets capable of higher computing and gaming power, Samsung is sticking with dual-core for the GTab 2. The device uses a 1 GHz dual-core processor, though the company hasn’t yet declared from which chip maker.
Other features include a 10.1-inch screen with WXGA resolution, a 3 megapixel rear camera and VGA front-facing camera, 16 or 32 GB of internal storage, and a 7,000 mAh battery. That’s not much of an improvement on the Galaxy Tab already sitting in front of me. However, Samsung did add a microSD slot for expanded memory, and the Galaxy Tab 2.0 comes with Android 4.0 with Touchwiz and Live Panel UX.
Price and regional availability is not yet known. Users should also be aware that certain features may change when arriving in their home market, as we saw with the differences with the original the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Below is the full list of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) specs.
