After finding out about the Xperia Ion 4.6-inch smartphone earlier, at AT&T’s official press conference in Las Vegas, a second handset from Sony has leaked on the web. The Xperia S is set to be unveiled a little bit later, at Sony’s press event, but trusted sources have already shown us all there is to know about the smartphone.

Sporting a beautiful 4.3-inch Reality display with Bravia Engine and 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, the Xperia S will certainly not be a gadget for masses, coming with some of the most impressive tech specs I’ve seen in a while.

The 1.5 GHz dual-core MSM8260 processor is state of the art and should offer the multimedia experience of a lifetime, but what could draw even more attention towards this smartphone is the rear-facing camera.

The 12 MPx Exmor R shooter with f/2.4 aperture and 1080p video recording capabilities will make you feel like a professional photographer and the additional front-facing 1.3 MPx front-facing camera is itself decent enough, being able to shoot 720p video clips.

The Xperia S is a delight to our eyes as well, coming with a chic and stylish overall look, but also with a weight of only 144 grams (just over five ounces) and an 0.41 inches (10.6 mm) depth.

Other known features include a 1750mAh battery with a yet to be specified autonomy, HDMI, NFC, as well as PlayStation certification. That’s all well and nice, but the smartphone will run Android Gingerbread 2.3 at the time of its official release (sometime at the end of Q1 2012), which is far from ideal.

On the other hand, we have the promise of an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime in Q2 and if the guys at Sony will deliver on that promise, we can safely say that the Xperia S has every chance of becoming a winner. Of course, if the price tag will be fair enough to make technology enthusiasts choose this handset instead of other Android-operated smartphones due to be released this spring.

Update: The formalities have been made and the Sony Xperia S is now 100 percent official. All the supposed tech specs were confirmed, as you can see from our exclusive hands-on video available here.
