Samsung is reportedly trying to upgrade the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab to Android 4.0

Several days ago, Samsung came forth stating it would be nearly impossible to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich on their older models such as the Samsung Galaxy S and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Both of these devices — especially the former — were widely popular in the United States and around the world, so you can imagine the type of negative feedback Samsung received when it announced these devices would be stuck on Gingerbread.
As a result, it looks like Samsung is going to try to find a way to upgrade these two devices to ICS. According to a report in a Korean newspaper, Samsung isn’t making any promises when it comes to getting ICS on the Galaxy S and Tab, but at least they are revisiting the possibility of ICS on the dated devices.
Whether or not Samsung will be successful in implementing ICS on the two Android devices remains to be seen, but hopefully the next time we hear from Samsung on the matter will be good news. If Samsung is successful, I imagine a global rollout to take place in Q2 or Q3 of 2012.

It is important to send feedback to Samsung about this matter: Dear Samsung, I just received word that there will be no further software upgrades to my year-old Galaxy S phone, and that would I need to purchase a new phone to get these upgrades. Moreover, I am told the reason for this is the “bloatware” installed by Samsung and –T-mobile on this phone. Be advised that because of the above lack of software support, I will be shifting brand and operating systems with my next phone. Respectfully, Michael J. Kelley, D.Phil.
