Google Wallet has gotten an update (to version number 1.0-R33v4) which brings in some much needed improvements. The update includes a better UI for the transaction detail screen, and a number of other small enhancements as well as the usual bug fixes. Users should welcome the in-app offers feature, now you don’t have to be annoyed with a handful of offers in your email inbox everyday (before the update, offers were only available via email notification).
For those of you who don’t know, Google Wallet allows users to make payments via Google Prepaid Cards or Citi MasterCard using their Android device at any MasterCard PayPass terminal. Right now, the service is only available to owners of Sprint’s Nexus S 4G, but availability to other phones and carriers should be announced in the coming months (trust, we’ll keep you informed). Checkout this full list of what’s new in the update below:
- Updated transaction detail screen (for Tap & Pay and in Transaction History)
- Merchant name and amount now available for Google Prepaid Card purchases
- Improved button to turn your cards on and off
- Five minute default PIN timeout for new users
- An improved tutorial
- Account Number validation for some gift cards
- Bug fixes
Ever since I received the firmware update which boosted me to Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, I’ve really enjoyed using Wallet — checkout our review of Google Wallet here. If you’re an owner of the Nexus S 4G, you can grab the update app by heading on over to the Android Market on your phone, hit Settings > My apps and you should see it. If you need help finding retailers who accept Google Wallet payments, head to the Android Market to download the app MasterCard PayPass Locator .
