Sony Ericsson announced today that it has launched its own channel on the Android Market. In an update rolling out to Sony Ericsson Android phones, the Android Market will be tweaked to showcase apps developed by Sony or promoted by its partners.
The Android Market features three tabs: Apps, Games, and My Apps. SE users will see Apps, Games, and Sony Ericsson tabs once the Market update is sent to their phones. The new tab be the place to see new Timescape plug-ins, apps or games exclusive to Sony Ericsson phones, and recommendations for apps that you can download. (The “My Apps” section is still accessible by pressing Menu > My Apps.)
This is the first that a phone manufacturer has created its own tab on the Market, though several U.S. carriers – including T-Mobile and Sprint – have also replaced the “My Apps” section to have its own recommend ed apps. Sony Ericsson says that this will be part of its efforts to improve Android app discovery. (SE also has select games highlighted in other places if you are an Xperia Play user).
According to Rikard Skogberg of Sony Ericsson, “there are more ways we could use this channel going forward,” so users can add their suggestions for how to improve it.

When I first read this article, I thought, what about Verizon? Then I thought, doh! First MANUFACTURER as opposed to first CARRIER, yeah, you're right. Great idea I think. Other manufacturers should line up for that program IMO. I believe it would diversify the market even more and customers would, IMO, feel a closer and more loyal relationship with the manufacturer, provided that the companies look at this as an opportunity and benificial to them as well as their customers. Win – win! Not to mention all the valuable data that would be accessible.to the manufacturers that could help them on future devices, essentially making a product that will be on high demand since the data is driven by the consumers!
