CONCLUSION
As stated in this article and previous Droid vs. Droid posts, what works for most may not be what’s best for you. With that said, I personally rate Kik and GroupMe as my top messaging apps. These apps are generally fast, feature-rich, are easy to navigate, and have so far performed well. That experience may vary depending on the phone you use and what OS is most popular among your social circle, but I think those two apps are best. Disagree? Let us know in the comments section.
P.S. This is not about the best SMS/texting app. This Droid vs. Droid showdown focuses only on apps that offer group messaging or instant chat with lots of features. Here’s a chart comparing some of the stats of all these apps.

Great roundup, but a little disappointing that there's no mention of battery drain for any of the apps. A messenger can have all the features in the world, but if it drains your battery too fast then it's pointless. I've been using LiveProfile since it was first mentioned here, as battery drain (or lack thereof) was specifically mentioned as a feature of the app. So far I've been impressed that that's rung true, and has enabled me to stay signed in 24/7. But what of the alternatives?
what about ebuddy XMS?
Now that Beluga has been purchased by Facebook, I expect it won't be too long before effective groupchat with location tags and picture sharing comes to Facebook Chat. People love to hate Facebook, but Beluga has the most intuitive and beautiful UI of these messaging apps so hopefully this will be transferred to Fb. Everyone has the Fb app already; you won't have to convince your friends to use a new messaging app, and we will have our winner.
I agree. I have used some apps you mentioned but drained a lot of battery. Some information about the battery drain may be appreciated as this is one of the criterion to decide whether the apps is suitable or not.. My recent post TOP 10 must-have apps for your ipad 2
The challenges of group text chat messaging for Android have been solved as soon as Google decides to add Smashtalk to Android. Smashtalk is patent-pending technology that is a backward-compatible version of the existing SMS spec enhanced with the elusive Reply-All feature. Want to see all the recipient of a text message? Want to be able to reply to every recipient or modify the recipient list? Smashtalk does all this without needing any 3rd party web site or any change of user behavior. Let Google know you want Android to include Smashtalk and the answer to group text messaging will be available to all the Android developers and users. http://www.smashtalk.net
Fast Society sounds good, but it might be worth a mention that it isn't available everywhere, in the UK, it doesn't even appear in the market.
i totaly disagree, i just installed Zlango Messaging and been using it a lot. The whole idea of icon messaging is really cool.
What about Zlango messaging, it's the most trending app for messaging, everybody i know with a droid use it https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zlango….
Hosted group texting is history repeating itself. Sadly, if things keep going the way they are, the ending is not very pretty. http://mryanblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/here-we-go-… explains why and how the group text industry could survive. The question is will the industry recognize the errors of the past and avoid them this time around?
No mention of Kakao or Line….
