Just in time to take a bit of thunder from the Sony Ericsson and Samsung conferences from MWC, pics and specs of the upcoming Motorola Droid X2 have leaked, but it’s not all good news unfortunately. The specs break down:
- NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor
- 1GB RAM
- qHD Display
- 3G Only
- 8MP Rear Facing Camera
- Android 2.2
- New Moto Blur
- FM Radio
- Mini HDMI port
The first things that pop out on this list for me: no 4G, no front-facing camera, and no Gingerbread.
The Droid X2 isn’t due out until Q2 of this year, which means it will be launching in a sea of 4G phones on Verizon, which will be pre-loaded with Skype. I can’t imagine this phone will launch at a cheaper price, so I don’t see much reason why customers would choose this over the competition, especially Motorola’s own Droid Bionic which matches almost every feature (though it has half the RAM), but includes 4G and a front-facing camera.
That said, I do like that Motorola is pushing the qHD displays. The iPhone screen is the one thing that Android manufacturers have been slow to work towards, so it’s nice to see phones that finally break the 480×800 line.
