Android Apps, Tablets
CNN is launching a new application targeting users of Android Honeycomb tablets. The self-proclaimed “Most Trusted Name in News” is making its way to tablets through a new iReport app that allows users to see the news just as easily as they contribute to covering it.
The CNN app employs a “Broadsheet” design that shows large images and video thumbnails of people, places, and things, that dominate the news. And if someone wants to focus on a particular subject – say celebrity news or world politics – they will be able to filter the app and get a look at the major stories within that category. The app takes advantage of Honeycomb’s “fragment” system and is expected to be ready when the Motorola Xoom debuts.
There is also a section dedicated to CNN’s iReport, which crowd-sources newsgathering from viewers, regular citizens, and community journalists. Only iReports already featured on CNN broadcasts will display in the app, but viewers can post a video or photo iReport directly from their tab. Take a look at a demonstration of the upcoming app.
