Line2 offers 2nd phone number, Wi-Fi calling, and unlimited texting

Line2 gives users a second line on their mobile phone. No, you’re not getting another contract on your device, but you are getting a new phone number that provides VoIP calling and several features that act as a virtual line on your Android device.

Yes, Google Voice is great for sending free SMS messages and maintaining a second number, but there are some areas GV falls short in which Line2 can pick up the slack. Line2 offers 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi calling when there’s no cellular reception (or you don’t want to use monthly minutes). This allows users to route calls through data connections, which can be a way to save money depending on monthly calling plan.

At $9.95 per month, Line2 may not be a viable option for everyone. It may even be cheaper to just upgrade to an unlimited calling plan. But for someone who travels often, places international calls, or needs a second phone number for conducting business or maintaining privacy, the appeal may be stronger. Line2 provides unlimited calling and texting in the US and Canada, cheap rates for international calls, and the ability to choose to create a secondary number. Below is a list of features.

Download the app and take advantage of a free 30-day trial to see if Line2 is for you.

Note: As of this writing, call quality is not consistently good on the HTC EVO 4G and the app “will not operate reliabilty with Samsung Galaxy S-class phones using Android 2.1″
