It’s an incredibly short video, just fifteen seconds, but it gives a bit of a look into how games will be organized on the coming PSP Phone (as it will likely be known, because no one will want to say Sony Playstation Phone, or Sony Ericsson Z1.) The Playstation app on the phone looks to include three tabs – All, Recently Used, and Recently Added – plus, a search option. The app is also fully touchscreen enabled, which may seem like an obvious thing, but I’ve spent years using Playstation products, and even the most common sense of UI can often be lost on Sony. The design of the app ties in nicely with the UI seen on both the PSP and PS3.
We’re still waiting to see actual gameplay, what games will be available on the system, and also what kind of interoperability it may have with current PSP systems or even the PS3. I can certainly imagine the phone being much like a PSP Go that runs Android. I’d expect the ability to play multiplayer over WiFi, but I’m not sure there will be 3G support. Another interesting thing is what rooting this phone may bring. PSPs are notorious for their hacking and homebrew community, and Android phones tend to be rooted very quickly.
Anyway, the video!
