Tron is one of the quintessential geek films of history, and history is about to repeat itself when Tron Legacy debuts in theaters December 17. And while you might be too busy playing with your new Nexus S to care about a movie with lights and fights, some folks out there might want to bring some Tron love to their Android device.
Here are a few ways to bring Tron Legacy to your Android homescreen. Not all methods are compatible with your current set-up or device, but there is at least something for everyone. A video at the bottom showcases a few things mentioned below.
The most obvious are wallpapers. The official website has a collection of Tron Wallpapers that you can download and set to your phone. My personal favorite is one of two stars battling on light cycles. You can browse the full gallery at Disney’s site. HTC EVO users can also select one of the images that I’ve edited for my own personal tastes. Each is 960 x 800 in resolution. You can also dress-up your device with a live wallpaper on Android 2.1 or higher. The Tron LWP shows a looping light beam forming, and the Tron Legacy LWP Live Wallpaper (£0.96) has a clip from the trailer showing a light cycle race. The later eats battery on high settings and will probably kill your juice.
Home screen Themes
ADW.Launcher users can purchase Tron ADW Theme ($0.99) to convert their homescreen. Icons for standard Android apps, as well as some popular apps ,will be converted to have the thin neon look similar to Tron.
Panda Home users can purchase Tron Legacy ($1.99) for a similar experience. There’s a great wallpaper, Tron-inspired clock widget, and icons converted to neon goodness.
Launcher Pro users can get Icon Tron for free, a collection of icons from XDA member akatsuikinew. It takes quite a bit of time to set-up, but check out our previous tutorial on Launcher Pro to get some help. You can also get a video demo of it here. And if you simply want to change the icons on your desk, a more traditional icon set is included.
