Google TV devices set to debut at CES delayed for software revision [RUMOR]

The second wave of Google TV devices were to be shown off at the CES trade show in Las Vegas next month. However, according to sources of the New York Times, those televisions will not make it to the showroom floor because Google has requested that partners not exhibit products so Google will have more time to revise the GTV software.
The Times reports that LG, Sharp, and Toshiba will not show off new Google TV sets because Google wants to improve the Android 2.1-based software that has been met with mixed reviews. The story is based on unnamed sources and no company mentioned has yet confirmed that it will display products as planned. Google declined comment because it does not address rumors.
Samsung and Vizio will continue to showcase their Google TV products, though Vizio will do so in private sessions only, according to the New York Times.
While I do believe that Google needs to improve the Google TV software, the real issue is video content blocked by networks. I’m hesitant to believe that a coming software revision would cause Google to take a step as drastic as requesting a last-minute retreat from CES. We’ll know soon enough.

If the rumor is true it means Google's appraisal of GTV property went down quite a bit and they no longer consider it to be a worthy solution to show as is, which is hard to believe. Admittedly work needs to be done to make GTV a consumer-friendly product, especially where it goes about the content. However given the preliminary nature of CES presentations as well as over-the-air upgradeability of the GTV boxes, showing work-in-progress devices seems to be just fine.
