Opera Mobile was first distributed in December 2009, but only to phone makers and not general consumers. We’re now in November 2010 and Android users still don’t have access to Opera Mobile. That will change next week.
Opera Mobile for Android will arrive in the Android Market on November 9 according to the Norwegian company behind Opera. As previously reported, Opera will come with better support for pinch-to-zoom and hardware acceleration that gives the browser “lightning speed.”
Anyone who has enjoyed using Opera Mini will love its more powerful cousin that has been unavailable for nearly a year. The beta version of Opera Mobile will arrive in the Android Market and m.opera.com, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
If you’re graphically-inclined and in the market for a new phone, Opera is also hosting The Great Big Android Wallpaper Contest to celebrate the launch. Rules and information can be found here.
