Comcast may not let Xfinity Digital customers watch its videos on Google TV, but it will let them watch on other Android devices soon. Comcast announced today that it has released a new iPad app that allows subscribers to access video from Xfinity TV, and promised that a comparable app will come to Android.
In fact, Comcast claims that it plans to “launch several apps this year,” a peculiar and ambitious claim considering there’s only a month and a half left in 2010. The announcement may be a tip that Comcast plans not only to let people watch Xfinity.tv on Android tablets, but also release apps compatible with high-powered smartphones like the Epic 4G or Droid X, or apps capable of acting as remotes, DVR managers, or other companions for the home entertainment system.
“The remote control hasn’t changed in years and this app will enable millions of consumers to instantly search thousands of live TV and On Demand choices and also watch the best content whenever and wherever they want,” Comcast Cable President Neil Smit said at today’s Web 2.0 conference.
Here is a list of features revealed for the iPad app. The Android version would likely include these features as well.
- Browse and discover video content from either TV listings or selections from the On Demand library in a rich user interface with colorful poster art and details.
- Use it as a TV guide so, in just a few finger taps, users can find what to watch by reviewing their TV listings and change the channel in real time.
- Program their DVRs to record TV shows, series and movies so they never miss their favorites.
- Sort content based on different filters like Networks and Genres such as Movies, Kids, Sports, or by HD content.
- Search by keyword or by title A-Z in TV listings or On Demand.
- Watch movies and TV shows directly on the iPad anytime, anywhere (coming in December).
- Personalize viewing with a “MyTV” feature to create a “Watchlist” of favorite TV shows and movies (coming soon).
Seamlessly access social networking sites to share what they’re watching with others (coming soon).

I really enjoy watching TV on my iPad and using it as a remote, being able to swipe is just so much easier while searching. The Xfinity app is kind of like the DISH Network app, using smart phones or tablets to schedule and manage the DVR, I believe now you have the ability to view the recordings on the Xfinity app now as well. With the DISH app you are able to view live TV and all of your recordings outside of your home network. As a DISH employee I must say this works great!
How do you view recordings on the xfinity app ? What is the exact name of the xfinity app to watch Comcast tv on it ? thank you.
Any recent news on an Android app to watch Xfinity TV?
My dad owns this patent!
