Angry Birds preparing lighter version for weaker phones

Though developer Rovio Mobile has taken pains to make Angry Birds compatible with as many phones as possible, people have still reported a great deal of lag and problems on certain devices. Rovio has responded to those problems by finally relenting and deciding to build a lighter version of Angry Birds that will be optimized for less-capable phones.
QVGA screens and legacy devices with older processors will be better equipped to handle the upcoming version of Angry Birds. Rovio promises to keep both versions on par with the amount of levels, but the code will be re-done to improve the fluidity of game play.
Rovio is also exploring how it can resolve the issues that users are reporting with the in-game ads. Angry Birds has been available for free because the game is ad supported, but the recent update repositioned ads to the top-right corner, which has proven to be distracting and possibly contributing to the slower performance. I asked Rovio if there would be an option to remove ads by purchasing a premium version of the app but received no response.
Here’s a list of the devices currently not supported. The game may load on some of these phones, but it might not be a good experience. Also keep in mind that Rovio does not support custom ROM’s or anything below Android 1.6.

G2 not supported? Why would that be? It flies on mine.
it's the HTC Hero they meant, as in the "HTC Hero/T-Mobile G2 Touch"
Angry Birds flies on the G2…
My recent post Man Whore er Pug Whore
maybe I'm mistaken but wasn't there an underpowered G2 in the UK released last year? If so, is that the one that's not supported?
Latest version is working quite well in Sony Ericsson X10mini pro, but I personalized system a bit. I guess that a little tweaking in game code could help. There are always bottlenecks to remove. All programs have some.
how long until the new version is available?
