Sprint poll about best OS leaves Android in the dust; vote now
October 29, 2010 | by Andrew Kameka
Sprint
Sprint is asking customers what smartphone OS it should focus on in the future. One would think the answer to that question would be obvious in light of Sprint all but admitting that Android brought it to the promise land last quarter thanks to the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Epic 4G. Right?
Earlier this week, a Sprint Community Administrator started a new poll asking customers which platform the carrier should focus on and webOS is killing the competition thanks to support from a Palm Pre blog.
This poll was created just to gauge community opinions, and I doubt it will have much influence on the suits at Sprint’s headquarters in Kansas City. Customers have already voted with their wallets, so I’m sure Sprint is smart enough to recognize where the immediate future lies.
But still, who doesn’t like to see Android win these online polls? PreCentral bumped webOS to a massive lead, so let’s remind them who’s in first and who’s in fourth (maybe fifth?) place in real life. Registered Sprint Community members can sign-in and vote for the poll at the Sprint forum.

WebOS 2.0 is the best mobile OS and everybody who has used it knows it.
WebOS indeed the best! Someday these "Droidheads" may wake up and see it…but I doubt it.
You don't have to be a registered user to vote in the poll. Just visit http://community.sprint.com.
My bad – you do have to register, but don’t have to be a customer.
FYI, you DON'T have to be a Sprint subscriber to sign up for Sprint's Community site and vote! You can sign up here and just fill out the "Create your profile" part: https://mysprint.sprint.com/mysprint/pages/sl/com….
(If you do use Sprint, though, you'll want to fill out all the fields so you can do stuff like pay your bill and get special info about your phone.)
I think the reason Android is behind is because all the Android users are enjoying the phones so much with all the apps and the OS as a whole that they aren’t worried worried about some poll that says the webos is in the lead. Those who think webOS is the best are those that who do not know how to use advanced OS’s. It’s funny how people who don’t like Android point out their biased view and the few flaws the OS may have, but they don’t relish on the webOS flaws they just state what it can do that the Android can’t but not the vise versa which is a whole lot more than the webOS.
Huh….that's because there is no vise versa. WebOS is just better. A TON better. They just need the hardware to back up the OS. What can android do that webOS can't…hmmm….nothing really. WebOS just needs a few more apps (NOT 90k apps either). Just a few. Can't wait until you get to see that someday!
That is unless Android catches up to WebOS.
WebOS has had many more years to work on their application and if it is better it's by a minor margin. In a short time Android has all but caught it. It won't be long before Android has left it in the dirt.
If you are determined to be a fanboy, then there is very little that we can persuade you. You haven't even bothered to state why it is better. As an operating system, WebOS has only 2 real advantages: synergy and the card system of multitasking (which can be replicated on Android via third party applications).
Another question – why do you think WebOS has limited hardware? It's not as open as Android. Thus, one maker and the danger of vendor lock in. One maker is never going to be able to put out the sheer volume of hardware that many makers will – even if it is HP.

The Webos guys are pretty hardcore about gaming these polls, I guess they think winning is some better indicator of the success of the OS than you know… actually selling phones.
Considering the poll wasn't even sent to users , it is pretty much a useless evaluation.
Well said! Plus have you seen some of the posts. There's even a guy crying because iDEN wasn't included in the list (DUH!). Most people who rely on polls can't think for themselves, they need someone else to tell them what to do.
LOL so true! There is no comparason, WebOS 2.0 is purely designed for those who are not "technically" inclined. Android OS is designed for those who want more and understand Operating systems. You can tweak it in so many ways, use apps that are, by far, more advanced and challenging. WebOS 2.0 has a market share as with anything else. I am not here to knock it at all, I seek more than a Web based software designed for people who just want a simple phone with the regular and popular apps that are considered "main stream" these days. I am absolutely not a "techy" but I am a fan of technology and keeping up with what's new and exciting and WebOS 2.0, is NOT what's new and exciting. I you prefer it, than kudos to you but don't rain on our parade!!!
WebOS: Decent OS. Android: Decent OS. Folks, they're *both* built on Linux. Same OS.
Android: Decent hardware, decent user experience. Palm Pre: smoldering turd.
I've owned both. Two days after I qualified for my upgrade with Sprint, I went *screaming* for the hills to my nearest Radio Shack to buy an Evo.
Never looking back.
