Documents to Go was named one of the Best Android Apps for its ability to read, edit, and create Microsoft Office Documents on the go. Version 3.0 of the software was set to bring about some optimizations and feature improvements when released this year, but things just got a little hazy now that assets of its creator have been sold.
DataViz, the company behind Documents to Go, recently sold “some of its assets” to Research In Motion. DataViz is known mostly for DocstoGo and the Exchange client RoadSync, so it’s safe to say the flagship product was included in the deal. It’s also possible that future versions of DocsToGo may be in doubt. According to statements RIM made to Digital Daily, RIM “hired the majority of [DataViz] employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform.”
We got a preview of DocsToGo 3 back at Google I/O and it looked very intriguing. I can only hope that Data…I mean, RIM will at least put out that version before deciding to stop supporting Android. The plug has already been pulled on the webOS version.

Good. Maybe finally one will be able to actually read PDFs on a Blackberry, instead of viewing them full page and vainly attempting to zoom in to any kind of readable level.
If they pull the plug on the Android version it will be one more reason for me to bash RIM to as many people as possible, as often as possible. I hope they go broke.
If they dump Android's version in a mistaken uber-proprietary platform play, it will just open up that revenue for another team of Android developers. I predict RIM will do exactly that, relegating a fantastic software suite to an ever-decreasing number of users. I owned Documents to Go on Palm and on Android, and their software leaves others in the dust. That is, until some smart Android team comes out with something that puts it to shame. I love the free market.
Another uber-proprietary platform is iOS… Lets bash that one too (I own an Android btw – and very happy with it)
I suspect that it will not matter by this point – all it will do is inconvenience those with the app already. The Android ecosystem has snowballed to the point where there will be more developers who will develop similar and ultimately superior applications if DataViz pulls the plug.
RIM you suck, you make crappy products and then take excellent ones that are on other platforms and make them your own. Just like another certain company I know who has been doing that in the video game world lately, *cough* M$ cough*
