Android’s openness gives users the freedom of choice, and nearly all elements of the OS can be replaced if one is so inclined. There is certainly a great variety of apps to choose from – not least when it comes to web browsers. The native Android browser is superb, but is there a faster one in the Market?

PC World has made an attempt to crown the fastest Android browser by letting six of them go head-to-head in a speed test, including the stock 2.1 Éclair and 2.2 Froyo browsers. The scores show average loading times on Wi-Fi on a Droid X, except for the Fennec test which was performed on an HTC Evo. Take a look at the chart below for the somewhat surprising results: Skyfire, for example, is faster than Opera Mini when it comes to loading cached sites.
