Verizon Wireless has confirmed that the Motorola Droid 2 will be available for purchase through a pre-sale that begins August 11. The Droid 2 will cost $199.99 after a mail-in rebate and new two-year agreement. There will be a required data plan and customers have the option to add-on the mobile hotspot feature for $20 per month.
The Droid 2 is the follow-up to Motorola’s hit Android device that debuted in November 2009. The latest Droid comes with 8 GB internal memory, Android 2.2, a redesigned slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a new finish, and access to Verizon’s exclusive apps like NFL Mobile and Skype.
Verizon will also a limited edition R2-D2 Droid 2 that is designed to look like the famous robot from the Star Wars saga. The phone will also include Star Wars content, but will not be available until September.
