Twidroid is dead. Long live Twidroyd.

Say goodbye to Android’s first usable Twitter client, say hello to Android’s next usable Twitter client. Popular app Twidroid has been acquired by TweetUp and renamed in order to minimize “confusion with products from Lucas Films, trademark owner of the term ‘droid.’”
Twidroid, uh… Twidroyd is on “millions of upcoming expected to be preloaded on millions of upcoming phones according to the announcement. That’s something that the app’s creator suggested it wanted to do last year. It remains to be seen how this acquisition will change Twidroid other than giving it a fancy new name. TweetUp is a company built around paid search results and promotion, so we can at least expect search results to now include promoted tweets in TweetUp.
Keep an eye on your favorite Twitter app and see how things turn out. If you’re unhappy with the change, there are options out there.

Any idea if this will affect folks who have the paid version of Twidroid (like me!)???
Doesn't it look like they'll stop selling it in the Market. If you've purchased the app already, you should be fine unless TweetUp decides in the future to release a new app.
Well, the have simply changed the name on their website and are redirecting twidroid.com to twidroyd.com. And they just released an update saying: "we just published v3.4.0 which ships with a bunch of new features along with a new name and some organizational changes." http://twidroyd.com/release-notes/
Well I hope that its not becoming a payed service or a service filled with advertising.
Hopefully they can funnel a bit of dollars/talent into graphic design of the UI!
Whatever it’s called, I’ve always liked twicca more (I even use it instead of my desktop client now).
LOL. I agree sweeterskins. I really liked the old TWidroid but the latest design was so horrible that I stopped using it months ago.
@catfight, I fully expect ads to pop-up. TweetUp is an advertising company after all, and they need eyeballs.
