It looks like Motorola has an update ready for Backflip users. And no, its not Android 2.2 or even 2.1 but instead a maintenance style update with some fixes and improvements.

First and foremost, the update is currently available and can be downloaded using 3G and/or Wi-Fi. Its also worth mentioning that this update is actually rolling out to Backflip users, which basically means you can sit back and wait for it to arrive.

Of course, why wait when you can get it now. In that case, head on over to Settings -> About phone -> System updates. From there you can click to download the updates and then finish up by hitting Install now.

The important part here, and this to all Backflip owners — this is a two part update. That said, after you finish downloading and installing the first portion, you will need to do it a second time. So basically go back and hit Settings -> About phone -> System updates once again.

All said and done, you should now be at software version 13.37. That is, assuming you have downloaded and installed both parts of the update.

And touching on what you can expect in terms of updates. Those look to include;

  • Improved text messaging
  • Improved display
  • Camera correction
  • Bluetooth improvements
  • Removes size restrictions for ringtones
  • Improved network connection
  • Better performance of Android Market applications
  • Improved stability
  • Improved battery life
  • Improved streaming audio and video playback
