doubleTwist Android app adds widgets, Last.FM scrobbling, and much-needed fixes

Anyone using as their media player of choice ought to head over to the Android Market and check out the new updates added to the app. doubleTwist has finally added the homescreen widget that people have been asking for since day one, myself included, making it easier to control music playback from the homescreen (or WidgetLocker).

Also added to doubleTwist Player is support for scrobbling to share what songs you listen to with others (requires app). There’s also a new mode to Shuffle all songs on track lists, Smart playlists for Most Played and Top Rated songs, and a fix for the previous errors that prevented some songs stored on the SD card to not be listed in the player.

doubleTwist also claims that the player automatically downloads album art but I’ve yet to see that take place since using the new version. I’m pleased to see the app progressing, especially since dT teases that these features will be coming soon:

  • Support for landscape mode.
  • Large home screen widget.
  • Lock screen controls.
  • Online radio.
