Dell offers “exclusive” deal on Streak as it preps U.S. launch

July 20, 2010 | by Andrew Kameka

Remember the Dell Streak? The Android MID that became an Android tablet that became an Android phone? Well, it seems to be getting ever-closer to a U.S. release. Dell has opened a sign-up page taking requests from customers interested in an “Exclusive Dell Streak pre-sale opportunity” that should be underway shortly.

Dell is offering to sell the Streak for an introductory price that is presumably less than retail, and it’s throwing in a Plantronics Bluetooth headset for only 99 cents. Anyone who signs-up will be eligible for an early sale for the device, which should be hitting the U.S. shortly. The Streak is already available in the UK through a contract deal with O2.

The Streak is attractive for having a 5-inch screen, a custom version of Android, and a 1 GHz processor. Depending on who you are, it’s also unattractive because of that large screen and custom version of Android, which is based on Donut (1.6). But someone in the market for a tablet or mega-phone will get the Streak for a cheaper price by signing up at Dell.
