Verizon confirms Droid Eris 2.1 update “coming soon” & will require a full wipe

Verizon has recently listed the Droid Eris 2.1 update as coming soon, and with that little tidbit comes some good and bad. First and foremost, an estimated arrival time was not given. And with that out of the way, when the update arrives it will come as an over-the-air update. So far it sounds good, OTA and coming soon. But the catch here is that this update is being listed as mandatory. Ok, again, not bad but it has also been confirmed that the update will wipe all of the data you have on your phone. In short, you will have Android 2.1, but you will be starting over with your data and apps. In other words, make sure your data is backed up before you begin this update. That aside, if you are a Droid Eris user, here is what you can expect with the Android 2.1 update…

Enhancements

  • Pinch-to-zoom is now available when using the Gallery and Google Maps.
