T-Mobile myTouch 3G will be getting an upgrade to Android 2.1

It looks like the T-Mobile myTouch 3G will also be getting Android 2.1, though at the time there has not been any estimate given as to when users may expect it to arrive. This little bit comes courtesy of Andrew Sherrard who is the VP of Production Innovation for T-Mobile, and he has stated that Android 2.1 is currently being tested and when ready it will come in the form of an over-the-air update. Additionally, the update will include Sense UI, which means that the non-Slide version of the myTouch 3G will catch up to the newer sibling and include all of the goodies such as the new Genius feature. And here is to another group of Android handset users that are now officially waiting. Its funny because all of this Android 2.1 update talk reminds me of the earlier Android days when all we were seeing was promised phones, now we have the phones and all we are seeing are promises of updates.

I hope it works. My husband out the espresso rom on my mytouch 3g and it didn’t work. It was really slow and buggy.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! OMG I was about to root and put cyanogens rom on my mytouch but i lost my spare microsd adapter for my computer. THIS IS A SIGN FROM THE HEAVENS!!!

This is frustrating. If I wanted Sense on my phone I would have bought a Hero. I want stock vanilla Android. Don't get me wrong I am glad that the phone has not been forgotten… but I sure as hell will not be wasting my time with this update… Thanks Cyanogen for providing an option that doesn't suck.

Think about this. You root your phone to get a better ROM, you break the warranty. But the carriers hold back on the updates for the NEW MODEL smartphones to come out leaving with original handheld outdated while always trying to persuade to you buy THE NEXT WAVE of smartphone. You’re damn if you root and it don’t work and You’re damn if you don’t root because you have to wait for the carriers to come out with the updates. Android 2.1 w/ Sense UI. Android 2.2 w/ froyo and my firmware is still 1.6. Recently I heard that there a version out there called Super D now what version is this? Come out with the DAMN updates already!

Third times a charm…huh dubya? I am upset that my MyTouch 3G is not being updated but you cant fault Tmo for trying. I'm upgrading in July when the Samsung Galaxy S comes out. I hope we get the 2.1 update before that so I can keep this MyTouch and get some more mileage out of it.

just talked to tmobile, and the mytouch 3g isn't capable handling the 2.0, 2.1 or the newest 2.2 firmware upgrade. Imagine that. Their solution is always to buy the newest phone. Easy for them to say!!! goodbye and good riddance tmobile
