Square now processing credit card transactions on Android phones

Square, a startup that allows people to accept payments through mobile devices, has released an iPhone and Android application. The new system allows small businesses, service providers, charities, or even friends to take payments using their phone.
The new Android app requires Android 2.0 or higher. It is also compatible with Square’s free credit card reader, which can plug into the audio jack and process secure transactions. Square then produces receipts for transactions and even displays photos of items you buy. It also permits customers to provide tips to wait staff and delivery persons.
Square provides a free setup and mobile card reader, but it does charge a fee for transactions; 2.75% + 15¢ to swipe cards, 3.5% + 15¢ for keyed-in transactions. Visit Squareup.com to start your mobile business (or business from your mobile) by signing-up and scanning Square’s QR code.

Me gusta ese pruducto es practico y facil de usar!
I can't seem to find this application in the droid marketplace and when I try the link from the website, I get a "redirect" message with a dead link. What gives?
when is this coming to the uk?? v.useful please hurry!!
I signed up for Square late September 2010 based on reviews and buzz. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. It's early December and I'm switching over to another company who has a monthly fee but a customer support phone number and a 48 hour deposit time.
Square deposits the first $1000 but then holds the rest of your money for 30 days and deposits it in some illogical increment. So if you have a charge after that initial $1000 for example, on the 21st, you get some of it deposited 30 days later; if you had another charge on the 22nd, again, you get some of it 30 days later etc. You end up getting your money in small irregular increments which basically devalues your money.
Think of having $100 but getting it in pocket change as $1 on one day, $7 a few days later; $4 a week later and so on and so forth.
Plus if you do the math, their rates are high. You're better off with a monthly fee and lower rates.
WHERE DO I GET THE PIECE TO SWIPE THE CARDS?
It is important to remember that you are offering a discount rate of 1.74% for swiped transactions and 2.29% for key entered transaction. Square is offering 2.75% and 3.5%.
With Square you are not getting an actual merchant account. They are a payment aggregator, much like PayPal. So if a Square customer has over $1000.00 in sales in a week, Square will hold any money over $1000.00 and not deposit it into their customers bank account for 30 days. So someone could have $3000.00 in sales but they won't be able to get the $2000.00 for 30 days. Since the Square customer does not have an actual merchant account, Square does not have to follow banking rules and can hold money however they wish, usually 30 days, but sometimes longer. We don't do this we deposit all money from our customers sales within 2 business days.
What company is this? I am New to this, using my phone to take payments. What is the best most reliable, honest provider on the market?
Here's another great credit card processing app and card reader for the Droid!

Don't talk crap. It's for iDevices. There is a vague promise of an android version "soon"
Square has a lot of failing equipment issues. The rate is extremely high and they will hold some of your money for 30 days before depositing it. Give them high marks for marketing though. They make people believe they have the simple easy way. The truth is Square is the worst deal out there. I am an independent sales office and broker merchant services to individuals and banks. I can offer you cost plus without blending rates. Much cheaper than Square and 24/7 service they can't match. We are rated number 2 of the top ten 2011 Compare Best Credit Card Processing Services. Call me for an honest answer.

Square is a great story and its founder is a great entrepreneur, but merchants need to look beyond the hype and into the numbers. The question you should be asking yourself is "Does it make sense for me to accept credit card with Square?" For some the answer will be "yes" (as for the cupcake baker in our story: http://blog.unibulmerchantservices.com/cupcakes-c… but for quite a few the answer will be "no."
Simply put, Square is a good match for merchants with low monthly processing volumes (because it comes with no monthly or any other fixed fees) and for merchants whose average transaction amount is very low (because Square charges no fixed transaction fee). However, for everyone else its 2.75% per-transaction rate is simply way too high, as the industry average hovers around 1.70% plus $0.20 per transaction.
You can certainly see your enthusiasm within the paintings you write. The sector hopes for more passionate writers like you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. Always follow your heart.
