HTC EVO 4G Camera Test: A gallery of photos and videos

The camera is becoming increasingly important for smartphone buyers. Consumers demand more of their phone now more than ever, wanting companies to shove a lens into their phone that can rival the photos and videos taken with their dedicated digital cameras.
Does the HTC EVO 4G fit that description? Decide for yourself. Below is a gallery of images taken with the EVO. All images were taken at maximum resolution but batch resized for the sake of storage and speed. Be sure to scroll down and read the photo description on each for more information about how that photo was taken.
If you choose the “View with PicLens” option, keep in mind that images are a little pixelated when displayed in full-screen mode because the module doesn’t resize properly. Things look clearer when you browse images one-by-one.
What about the video camera?
Below are videos recorded in sunlight, and as you can see, they’re pretty, prettyyyyy good. I had a video recorded in a dimly lit bar that wasn’t very good, so I didn’t bother uploading it. Suffice it to say, you need at least moderate lighting to get decent video out of the EVO 4G. Below are two videos using the 8MP camera. An article dedicated to the front-facing camera is coming shortly.

Video needs a spot meter to light up the faces, maybe face detection and stabilization
The still camera has face detection, but I've only seen it kick in for group shots.
there is a spot meter option, but i chose not to turn it to test default settings.
The video recording is surprisingly decent. I saw another example that didn’t look so great and I haven’t heard much good things about it. But this tells it all, the videos are almost as good as those from a Flip HD cam after web compression. Photo camera is nice too.
The cinematography is a far bigger problem than the camera, IMHO. With a little more careful shooting, we might actually be able to see how good the camera might be.
Sorry, just frustrated at you guys that got the handouts…….
