CardStar has released an Android version of its popular card-storing application. Now available in the Android Market, CardStar has arrived to save people from the annoyance of carrying gym memberships, store reward cards, and other scannable membership cards in your wallet or key ring.
Rather than deal with membership cards clogging up your pockets, CardStar saves a barcode containing your membership number and information. Users need only to go to a store, open the membership card while waiting in line, and then have a clerk scan the barcode displayed on screen. Key rings and wallets across the country just shed some bulk.
Here’s a video showing how easy it is to add membership cards and then use them in store. I was unable to test if CardStar works on flatbed scanners because I don’t have any reward cards that use it.

I've tried other apps like this, and when you get to the checkout, the barcodes won't scan (either using the gun, or the scanner, or both). You can only ask the cashier so many times before they (and the customers in line) start to get a little frustrated.
Is this app any better/worse than the others once you actually try to use the bar codes at a retailer?
I think the problem is with the reflectivity of most of the smartphone screens…
The only other app like this I have used is Key Ring which has always worked for me on its first attempt. The only time it runs into trouble is flatbed scanners or when a store has fluorescent lights directly above the register and reflect off the screen.
I ran into that problem at one store with card star, but was able to get it on the first attempt in two others. It's really about the store layout and type of scanner they use.
I tried using Key Ring today for the first time on my droid incredible, and the scanner at GFS would not pick it up – bummer!
My keyring App worked like a charm! Samsung Fascinate on Verizon Network
I've tried numerous retailers and Cardstar won't scan either by gun or flatbed at the register. I don't know why. Someone mentioned reflectivity and I suppose that could be it but…..it did scan and rejected right away. I did notice the number under the bar code was different in most cases after scanning it into the phone.
