Android 2.1 update for Sprint’s Samsung Moment has landed
May 13, 2010 | by Chris Smith
Samsung, Sprint
There is yet to be an official announcement from Sprint, but Phandroid and others are reporting that if you go to the Moment’s support page on Sprint’s site you can indeed download and install the newest version of Android for the Moment (2.1). It is a nice 84MB and it seems that it will be a tethered install; no OTA updates for Sprint Moment users.
Phandroid is also pointing out that someone on the SDX-Developers forum is the lucky one who uncovered the update and says that there Moment does read Firmware “2.1-update1″ (just like the DROID’s) and seems to be running fine. There is a mention of no Live Wallpapers, but there is yet to be any verification of it.
Since this hasn’t been officially released by Sprint yet one may think that they could pull it down at anytime if they don’t know it’s there. So, jump over to the Sprint Moment support site and grab your copy before it may be to late! Also, let us know how the update goes, will you?

CONFIRMED!
All that was there is the same old CL14 firmware update that everyone confused for the Android update back in February.
it says it is the old version but when installed it is 2.1
yes it is 2.1 click the download link and you will see
The site still reads CL14 and shows 84mb download…BUT what you get is a 101mb DE03 file which will bring you delicious Eclair 2.1 goodness.
Yes its a 101 MB file. Loads just fine. Someone at sprint has FooBared in our favor.
I can confirm, live wallpapers appear to not work.
I need a copy before its taken down but I only have web thru the phone right now. Fuuuuuuuu
is this worth downloading or should I wait until all the bugs are out and sprint officially releases it?
Well I just got it on my phone so far so good but no live wallpapers yet
can someone post a link to the download site? I cant find it thanks!
still only 3 home screens, not 5.
CONFIRMED 2.1
Sprint is a joke, just as suspected the moment got 2.1 before the hero, and the hero has been out longer! Sprint may have good prices and nice devices but the tech support and customer service is aweful! I may not jump ship to another carrier bc I’m not going to spend anymore money on monthly plans, but I def will not recommend Sprint to anyone..
@aaron
I think the only reason that the Moment received the update before the Hero is the fact that the Samsung Moment is considered a “Google Experience” device, meaning that it is stock Android and can receive updates sooner. HTC has to port the Sense UI to every major release of Android before releasing it to carriers for review. Once it gets there it could potentially take forever.
Those who complain about Sprint being such a lousy carrier for taking so long for the Android update ought to consider that Tmobile has not updated any of their Android phones and they were out even longer.
I was very excited to get 2.1 update,but…Its horriable.Sprint should of used the leaked DD03 version.Instead sprint used DE03 version,update-1.my browser opens,5 sec’s later closes’.Same with my app market,facebook
has anyone gotten the pinch to zoom to work?
I dont think the pinch to zoom works on the moment
What a joke this is. Only 3 home screens no live wallpaper. Phone has crashed at least 8 times over weekend. It looks the same as before all they did was change the icons. I feel cheated with this 2.1 ultra basic edition. What’s the point in having a great phone with a lousy software. Into the trash it goes
I have loaded the latest release of 2.1 and it has solved my bigest problem. But they seam to have left some things out. Namely the muliple home screen function and the Live Desktop function. Dose anybody know why they didn’t include these functions. I agree “What’s the point in the upgrade if they are going to leave out some of the functionality? I must admit that thet did fix some things such as bluetooth connectivity and I do like some of the new UI. But Sprint needs to take another look at this release. I am not a happy camper!!!!
