Netflix wants your help in Android development

Netflix’s name popped up a few times in our post asking Android users to describe their dream app. Those dreams are getting closer to reality based on a job description posted to the Netflix website.
Netflix is seeking an engineer who can “help us build Instant Streaming client implementations on Android devices.” The post goes on to list the same crap that appears in every job description, but all you care about is that six-letter word that confirms Netflix is coming to Android. What else did you expect with the introduction to media-geared phones like the HTC EVO and coming wave of Android-based tablets?
Anyone interested in applying can visit Netflix. I’ll slip you a few extra bucks if you become our mole and leak details about the project.

Ok, if they are developing Netflix for Android, why is Linux development so difficult? Android IS Linux. COME ON!
Probably the GUI layer needs to be Android-specific. Linux is the OS. A GUI is not a GUI.
Why Android but no linux? Easy: DRM. On Android devices (or iPads), they can reasonably believe no one can easily capture the video stream, while on PCs, they rely on Silverlight to prevent that. I imagine the studios have some high bars for content protection that NF has to meet, and they’ve decided that the cost/benefit says to wait until Moonlight catches up to what they need (don’t hold your breath).
