Jorte is a promising Android calendar replacement [App Reviews]

Free apps, Productivity
If you are a calendar and todo list addict like myself then you have probably scoured the Market for the latest-greatest productivity applications. And if you are like me you have probably spent more time searching for productivity crap than you have actually been productive. Let’s add another calendar application to the list that looks somewhat promising.
Jorte is a free calendar application that coincides with the built in Google calendar (which, in my opinion is hard to beat) or can segregate it’s own data within the application. Jorte seems to work well and is pretty fast and full featured. The user can view month, week, and daily agendas by just tapping a few selections. You can add an event to the calendar, yet the way that Jorte implements this is a little different than stock calendar. Instead of going to the menu and selecting add, you choose the day and then add the event to the day. This helps streamline the process of adding events, but at first glance can be a little confusing.
Jorte also has three different Home widgets. You can have a full monthly calendar, a weekly horizontal calendar, and a weekly list. I like that you have the choice of three different Home widgets, and even if I don’t see myself using the full blown application, the monthly Home widget may just be a mainstay. Something else that is kind of different is that you can add todos and memos right to the monthly calendar view in the app, yet you cannot sync this with any service making it unusable for some.
KEY FEATURES
- Three home widgets giving the user fast and easy ways to look at upcoming appointments or schedules.
- Fast interface and view of month, week, and day with a single tap.
- Full integration with Google Calendar.
- Data import and export.
- Free!
CONS
- Interface isn’t completely intuitive and English translation can be confusing.
- Todo list may be unusable for some without sync.
- Cannot set up repeat events.
- Although widgets are nice, if you have a lot of appointments on one day you cannot see them easily.

YOu had me until the fact that you can't setup repeat events…
Yes, that is annoying. That could definitely be something that is added later though.
Not true. I set up repeat events.
What about exchange support? If it can access the account API it should be able to sync with exchange.
Pocket Informat in Near
Just installed it. I really like the widgets over the Google Calendar. I suppose you could go back to Google Calendar and set repeating events for the time being. Exchange makes me throw up.
CalWidget still wins.
You can repeat something on the Jorte Calendar. Open show details when setting up a new event and then there is a repeat option. I use it for Birthdays but there is a daily, weekly, monthly option too.
how about SYNC with MS Outlook(outlook can sync with google calendar) anyone knows outlook sync?
Use Google Calendar Sync to sync the Google Calendar to Outlook: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer…
Google's calendar sync was very unreliable for me. SyncMyCal works much better, and is much more configurable.
wow.. first serious Calendar replacement. so far looks very good. much better than simple Calendar Pro or all those widget-only apps.
I'd really like to know if there is a fortnightly repeat option??? That one is the most important to me so very angry that samsung didnt even bother to add that in! Should have gone with nokia!! They have fortnightly repeat option!
I use a droid. The search button on the phone does not work when this app is open. Nor does the search feature in the app…. Anybody have any suggestions
I find this kills the app. How can you not have a search function in a calendar app?
I thought Jorte was great until I kept missing appointments. I work for an airline which takes me out of the country once a week. The calendar is obviously updating to the local time zone I go to and changing all my appointment times but not changing back when I return to base. Infuriating! Will have to search for an alternative.
I am a psychologist who is is coming from using a palm centro (dying…). got a droid 2 global. was hoping the google calendar (using the phone-not computer) allowed me to search for patient names easily, copy someone's name and past in an appointment a month from now easily etc….bottom line is i am looking for something more userfriendly and a full functional calendar for the PHONE. does Jorte do it? if i install it, does it sync to google calendar on my computer? sorry for the naivete.
I just downloaded Jorte and it seems like it will work for me. However, I cannot figure out how to get a wigdet loaded. I can see it in the screen shots above, and I've read their "manual" several times, but can't noodle this one out. Can someone help me please? Thanks! Steph
I like Jorte overall on my new Gingerbread driven Nexus S. However, the earch feature not working is annoying! But for looks and multi screen possibilities, does a good job
How do you use the reminder with jorte app? I'm setting it with + sign but I'm not seeing any notification.
What exactly is a "notification" if the phone doesn't beep or buzz or DO SOMETHING at the appointed time? If it does, it's not easy enough to figure out so it is getting trashed from my droid
I can set up reoccurring events. maybe an upgrade? I LOVE jorte. haven't missed anything yet.
I had trouble syncing the calendar on my Galaxy Tab with Google using the native app. Found and installed Jorte and had no problem syncing with Google. Woks great and it doesn't look to bad either. It's a very useful app and with a bit of polish, could be better than the caledar that came with the Tab.
Jorte is the best. I love it. I use it for everything, Ive stopped using paper agendas because of this app!
The reviewer is WRONG. I have set up my rather odd work schedule which repeats on a 28 day rotation. It works just fine
