Opera Mini 5 is my favorite browser on Android, yet I can’t make it the default browser on my Android. Maybe Opera has a justifiable reason for doing this, but I don’t really care; I want my MTV Opera Mini 5!
Thankfully there’s an app that makes it possible to make Opera Mini 5 beta app become the default Android browser. OperaBridge is an app that will grant Opera Mini 5 the necessary intents to be your device’s first choice for loading links. If you’ve been a fan of Opera and upset you couldn’t let it handle all links when reading e-mail or Twitter, your prayers have been answered.
However, there’s a catch: every time you click a link from outside of Opera, it has to start Opera Mini’s loading screen that adds about half a second to your wait. It’s a small inconvenience since Opera is still faster than the standard Android browser.
- Download Opera Mini 5
- Download OperaBridge from the Android Market
- Click a web link on the phone and a window should come up saying “Complete action using”
- Select the “Use by default for this action” radio button
- Press OperaBridge
- PROFIT! I mean, SURF!
