Android Apps Alert 17: dictate, dine, and dress to impress

Android Apps
Well, I think it’s safe to say that the #androidapps tag on Twitter is in dire straits. The tag has been polluted by spamming bots and app awareness services that have made it annoying to dig through the recommendations. That won’t bring us down, though. We’ll keep trying to highlight apps each week. Feel free to recommend apps to check next week in the comments section.
SpeakWrite Recorder
Recording voice notes is a quick and easy way to take down ideas or dictate a speech that you plan to transcribe later. But what if you could pay someone to transcribe those notes for you? Is that something you’d be interested in? SpeakWrite Recorder records voice notes, snaps photos to accompany them, and provides playback later. There is an optional process to upload the files and have a live human transcribe the notes FOR A FEE.
Kids Eat Free
Restaurants often have deals that allow children under a certain age to eat free. Kids Eat Free is an app that helps track down restaurants with promotions for free meals. It also provides direction or navigation to the selected restaurant, contacts to ask questions or check wait times, and details about which days the deals are active. The app can search for restaurants based on GPS location, city, and zip code.
Opera Mini 5
Browse. the. web. faster. Opera Mini renders pages on their servers, compresses the information, and then sends it to the user’s phones. Opera Mini 5 is a beta app that renders pages much faster than the default browser. It also has a great interface with home tiles, browsers, and multiple windows. The only complaint I have is that the app cannot be set as the default browser at the moment.
MyCloset
You may have seen the myTouch commercial where Dwayne Wade picks his outfit based on the clothes he has stored in an app. MyCloset catalogues your tops, bottoms, and dresses, then lets users mix and match to decide what to wear that day. The app can track clothes through taking photos or entering them on MyClo.com. For indecisive folks with large wardrobes, it can be a fun way to get dressed in the morning.
