Irish carrier Meteor announces that HTC Hero will receive Android 2.1 update in March

This will not necessarily mean anything for majority of the HTC Hero users, and certainly not for myself who is still on Sprint here in the US. However, Irish mobile carrier Meteor have announced that the Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero is scheduled to go out in March.

According to a forum posting on the Meteor website,

“Just got another update on this and HTC have said they are releasing 2.1 on the Hero and we are hoping to have this available by the end of March.

This will be available via the HTC website and we are also looking at other ways to make this update easier to access for our customers. As soon as I hear any more on this I’ll let you all now because I know the release of 2.1 is something that everyone is looking forward to.”

Of course, if you read the above quoted text you will note that this may be good news for anyone that may have purchased an unlocked Hero because it notes that the update will be available on the HTC website.

Now maybe we can get some further confirmation from other carriers (including Sprint) as to when we can expect Android OS 2.1.
