HTC has recently released a ROM upgrade for Magic users. The latest is version 3.05.401.3 and it includes Sense UI.

The ROM upgrade can be downloaded directly from the HTC website.

Also, just to add a word of caution, HTC recommends backing up all of your data before upgrading — in other words it may be a good idea to backup. You know, just to be safe.

So what are you waiting for, head on over to the HTC website and begin your upgrade. And yes, there is a full set of directions of how to upgrade on the HTC site.

How does it relate to upgrading Android OS? Will I be able to upgrade later to Android 2.0/2.1?

In some countries the HTC Magic was only available as a Vodafone branded version, no matter if you purchased it together with a contract or SIM free.

HTC's German support told me yesterday that these Vodafone branded Magic's could not install this firmware update. And true, the serial number of my device is not accepted.
HTC recommended to approach Vodafone for this update. Yeah, right, likely to happen…

I hate this "exclusively available at" and this branding crap, I really really hate it. Why can't handset manufacturers simply sell their devices in stores without hassles for consumers like every other vendor of consumer goods does?

I'm not touching this thing.. it's got a perfected SPL that will remove your ROOT privileges and make you cry harder than a 6 year old that's just dropped his ice cream. On the other hand I have been using SenseUI on my Magic so long I got bored with it… over 6 months now.
