Verizon to Droid users: Prepare to pay $15-a-month for Exchange support
November 3, 2009 | by Robert Nelson
Carriers, Verizon
I am not sure this comes as a surprise or not, but it was the cause of some confusion. We had at least one question in the comments of a previous post. Simply put, customers or possibly potential customers were wondering if Verizon was planning to charge anything extra for the Exchange support.
Well, for good or bad, the answer to that question seems to be a YES.
And not to poke fun at Verizon and their iDont commercials, but this seems to be another case of iDont, except this time it is not in the favor of Verizon.
Basically, Droid users will have to subscribe to the required data plan and also pay an additional $15 a month if they want to use Exchange. Which for those keeping track would be a total of $45 a month.

Non-news to anyone who's had a smartphone before.
ATT has the same $15 charge for Exchange access.
Ignore it. Exchange works for most people on the $30 plan, on both carriers.
So, you think Exchange will still work on the $29.99/month plan? I know people with iPhones and their's work, no matter the plan.
Verizon has been known to block access in the past though. I'm wondering if there is something they could block on the $29.99 plan that would force users to pay the extra $15? I hope not, they should only charge corporate accounts that
Thats if you want Verizon to host your exchange account. You can get a much better deal at other places online. I have seen $3.99/month deals before. Exchange is a hosted solution that isn't free to anyone. This is nothing new in any way.
If you work for a corporate environment you might be able to get access to your work account. It all depends on the personal device policy of your corporation. Many companies don't want sensitive information on a device they don't have full control over.
Ahhh c'mon now Androinica, I thought you'd do better than these other sites and report it correctly like Engadget did! Merc has it right, this only is going to apply to Verizon hosted services, and I was hoping you guys would be one of the ones to clear that up. There's no logical reason why they would charge for ActiveSync based Exchange connections.
Thanks Jeff and GadgetMerc. I got my happy face back.
Thanks for clearing that up! Wasn't looking forward to spending $15 extra/month just for some email.
Right on Jeff! Especially since Activesync is just done over a port 80 or 443 TCP connection. If you have a data plan on your phone activesync should work fine.
And get ready to bend over again with the $350 Early termination fee increase on the Droid. I know Verizon would F this up somehow. And tethering…sure, that will probably be another $50 a month. Typical verizon! So proud of their network that they're willing to screw their customers!!! I'll stick with GSM so I can dodge and weave for a little longer. But with FCC coming down on them, telcos are going to roll higher fees in elsewhere to compensate for tighter regulations. Kinda like Credit card companies comply with govt to only raise fees elsewhere to compensate for lost revenue. Sucks!!!!
