Google goes slightly crazy for the Droid, puts text ad on homepage

It seems that just about everyone has gone a little crazy for the Droid. On the current Google homepage, you can now find an ad for the Droid. Short and simple, it reads;

“New! The Droid is on sale now. Learn more.”

Of course, this is in addition to the picture of Bert and Ernie which is being displayed in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. But back to the Droid ad, if clicked, the “Learn More” link will take you to yet another Google page with a little and I do mean a little more information about the Verizon Droid. Then from there, you can either choose to learn (even) more or proceed to purchase the phone.

All things considered, while I find it nice to see that Google is promoting the Verizon Droid, I think I prefer the usual standard of keeping the Google homepage ad free. That said, the page still does come in at 27 words, which for those keeping track is just under the 28 word rule that Google maintains.
