VIDEO: Early look at Donut Android Market, Quick Search, and Camera app

What’s new in Donut? Well, look for yourself. Below are three videos showing a few new features that you’ll find once the Android team and carriers deliver Android 1.6 (Donut) in an over-the-air update. The videos showcase the new Android Market, which includes screenshots and a revamped interface; a tweaked camera/camcorder interface; and the new Quick Search box, a near-universal search bar that searches both the web and content stored on your phone.

I’m able to access these features because they are built into the Cynanogen modded version of Android available to root users. As I mentioned in a previous story announcing the availability of the Android SDK, it remains to be seen when standard phones will receive the update.

"…carriers deliver Android 1.6 (Donut) in an over-the-air update…" This is untrue. 1.6 will be delivered. Donut is not 1.6, and will not be delivered. It should not be in the text of this article or in the headline. You are only confusing peope by using Donut when you mean 1.6.

Bruce, Donut IS 1.6. That's directly from the Google Developers Blog. http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/09/an… <—- they even use a Donut image in their post.

Hey Andrew, I have a question I cannot find an answer for. When recording with the new camcorder, is the audio playback louder? I have 1.5 stock google ota release, and I don't know if it's everyone, or just me but the video sound playback is super quiet. Yes, I made sure all volume options were at their highest, but even when I upload to youtube, it's still super quiet. Does the new camcorder software have similar issues??

Brian, I never experienced that problem in so I don't have a base for comparison. I just tested the video and the volume, while not the best on the market, was normal. Again, I didn't have the problem in 1.5 so I can't really say if this update will fix your problem.

i have a problem, after installing the new update i am unable to use my search box. when i click on it i does not let me type in anything…
