Augmented Traffic Views, the Android app that provides a new way of looking at urban traffic zones, is available to people in some cities. Traffic View users can now receive traffic updates, turn notifications, and navigation help from the app. As seen in a preview video released a few weeks ago, Traffic View uses spotlight cameras in the Toronto metro area to provide images that help gauge traffic conditions. It has been released to support more than 30 areas, relying on waypoint information to make it easier to decide where and when you travel. The app also offers alerts for speed traps and points of interest.

Augmented Traffic Views relies on the Text to Speech Library, so the voice sounds a little choppy and robotic. However, the app did attract quite a bit of interest and attention when a YouTube video showcasing its merits hit the net. It cannot supply information for every city, but the app’s creators supplied a list of available areas. If a state/province is listed, that doesn’t mean every city and town is supported.
