Rogers hosts Android App Idea contest; phones and app given as prize

Everyone’s a critic when it comes to Android, so Rogers is encouraging Canadians to put up or shut up in its Rogers Best App Contest. The Android-centered competition asks users to share their ideas for the next great Android app so they can be voted on by the general public; the winning app will then see their idea become a full-fledged Android app.

Rogers is accepting written and voice-recorded submissions through the Rogers Best App Contest Facebook application. Users vote on a submitted idea and the top vote-getter each week wins an HTC Dream or HTC Magic; which phone winners receive is determined by Rogers. After five weeks, the grand prize winner receives the gift of seeing his or her dream app developed for Android.

The top vote-getter at the moment is an idea for a Facebook/Twitter “ultimate mobile app complete with chat and status updates! photos and video galore!” Others ideas include apps to track the food you eat, track garden placement, and what I can only assume/hope is a sarcastic commentary on social media overload:

I shower with cold water. Lets just say I’m weird like that. Wouldn’t you like to know how other people like to get clean? Shower or bath? Hot or cold? Short or long? Daily? Get to know your friends with this fun new app to spice up what you know about your friends.

Um…yeah. Anyway, join the Rogers Best App Facebook application to participate in the contest. All entries must be from Facebook members, legal residents of Canada over the age of majority in your province, and not an employee or living with an employee of Rogers or any other company related to the contest. Read the Rules & Regulations in full on the Facebook contest page.
