NBA Digital and T-Mobile have teamed up to release Close Up, an Android app that adds “live” coverage of the NBA Eastern Conference finals games. Adding a unique element of simulcasting and on-the-go viewing, Close Up provides video from four camera angles used by TNT to broadcast NBA games:
- Arena
- Host
- Action
- Player
For the price of 99 cents, users can also get postgame highlights and coverage of Eastern Conference playoff games. The app specifically names the Eastern games in its Android Market listing and on the NBA Mobile website, so I’m venturing that we won’t see the Western Conference games on this app.
The NBA has released Close Up exclusively for the Android platform. T-Mobile has an integrated marketing relationship with the NBA on TNT, so it makes sense that they would finally start flexing some of that muscle with tangible apps. Between this and NBA Game Time, the league seems to “get it” when it comes to mobile phones.

Alright that's all fine and dandy but what's the app like? I appreciate you bringing the app to our attention but I want to know what the experience is like? how is the image quality. How good are the cameras? Whats the streaming speed like. Give us some information that's NOT simply available in the application's market description.
I used the app last night and I was great in WiFi and even on 3g in Orlando but really bad video when no 3g showing. Worked really well and I saw some great sport!
Lakers deserved to win this year, hands down. and not cause I’m a big fan of Bryant
They were the best.
