HTC has confirmed that it will release more Android handsets in 2009. Chief Executive Peter Chou, responding to questions about Google’s mobile OS, said that HTC will release “at least three” mobile phones using Android.
Analysts have pegged the number at five Android-based phones from HTC, but Chou would confirm only three devices packing the software we all love. However, that does leave the door open for HTC to release more Android devices later this year. Chou didn’t provide any information about device names or availability, but this is something many expected after HTC’s 2009 Roadmap leaked last year.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that more devices aside from the Magic are coming from HTC this year. The company has established itself as one of the main players in Android with the T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream and have hit the ground running by developing more devices using the platform. Android, along with HTC’s push for more market share in China, is expected to give the company 10-20 percent revenue growth. No wonder they’ve embraced Android so much.
