Android circular zoom, video recording spotted

Two new Android features in the HTC Magic/G2/HTC Sapphire/often-rebranded-or-nicknamed-based-on-carrier-phone has been spotted in France. In a video profile and interview conducted by CNET France, Android fans got their first glimpse at a circular zoom function and video recording.

Circular zooming is brought up when the screen is tapped twice. Rotating the onscreen wheel left or right then zooms in or out to varying degrees. The zoom function is displayed in both the Android Browser and Picture apps. You can’t say definitively based on the short clip (seen starting at 2:06 mark), but it looks more accurate than the G1′s current plus and minus zoom options.

The video recording function, seen at the 2:26 mark in the video, is seen for an even shorter period but looks solid. There are options to start/stop recording, delete video, and share with others via Gmail, SMS, or upload directly to YouTube.

This is normally the part where people insert some corny French reference like “ooh, la, la,” but we’re better than that. The G2/Magic/Sapphire comes to France on SFR in April, which will put it in direct competition with the G1/Dream that recently debuted on Orange.
