Motorola dropping Symbian in favor of Android

According to some statements from Sanjay Jha, the CEO of Motorola’s Mobile Devices group they will no longer be developing phones running the Symbian OS or the UIQ user interface. So, while this may come off as bad for Symbian fans, this is an Android blog, so the news sounds good. Of course, in addition to Android, Motorola will also continue to develop for Windows Mobile. They are also committed to finish any Symbian or UIQ devices they are already working on.

As for upcoming Android handsets, Motorola has mentioned that Android will be making an appearance on both consumer and enterprise handsets and that we will not be seeing any available until the end of 2009. With just about a full year to wait, we can only hope that they prove to be exciting.
